63 Crayons
NPR.org, April 4, 2007 - 63 Crayons produce dark, danceable psychedelia out of Athens, Georgia. Their new album is Spoils for Survivors.
Charlie Johnston (guitar) began recording and performing the band's mysterious songs in his hometown of Roanoke, Virginia. Suzanne Allison (bass, keys) and Ben Davis (electronics, theremin) added texture to the songs as founding members of 63 Crayons.
With this lineup, the band started producing upbeat, catchy pop through an EP of home recordings, Spread the Love, and the band's first full length, Good People.
The band later moved to Athens, Georgia and underwent some line up changes. Soon they were joined by Derek Almstead (drums). Spoils For Survivors was recorded by Elephant 6 cohort Almstead at his own Pixel Studio in Athens.
